Symmetry-prohibited thermalization after a quantum quench

چکیده

The observable long-time behavior of an isolated many-body system after a quantum quench is considered, i.e., eigenstate (or equilibrium ensemble) some pre-quench Hamiltonian $H$ serves as initial condition which then evolves in time according to post-quench $H_p$. Absence thermalization analytically demonstrated for large class quite common pre- and spin Hamiltonians. main requirement that the must exhibit $Z_2$ (spin-flip) symmetry, would be spontaneously broken thermodynamic limit, though we actually focus on finite (but large) systems. On other hand, violate but rest may non-integrable obey hypothesis (sums of) few-body observables.

Thermalization after an interaction quench in the Hubbard model.

We use nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory to study the time evolution of the fermionic Hubbard model after an interaction quench. Both in the weak-coupling and in the strong-coupling regime the system is trapped in quasistationary states on intermediate time scales. These two regimes are separated by a sharp crossover at U(c)dyn=0.8 in units of the bandwidth, where fast thermalization o...

Strongly correlated fermions after a quantum quench.

Using the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group method, we study the time evolution of strongly correlated spinless fermions on a one-dimensional lattice after a sudden change of the interaction strength. For certain parameter values, two different initial states (e.g., metallic and insulating) lead to observables which become indistinguishable after relaxation. We find t...

Quasiparticle explanation of “weak thermalization” regime under quench in a non-integrable quantum spin chain

Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis provides one picture of thermalization in a quantum system by looking at individual eigenstates. However, it is also important to consider how local observables reach equilibrium values dynamically. Quench protocol is one of the settings to study such questions. A recent numerical study [Bañuls, Cirac, and Hastings, Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 050405 (2011)] of a ...

Quantum relaxation after a quench in systems with boundaries.

We study the time dependence of the magnetization profile, m(l)(t), of a large finite open quantum Ising chain after a quench. We observe a cyclic variation, in which starting with an exponentially decreasing period the local magnetization arrives to a quasistationary regime, which is followed by an exponentially fast reconstruction period. The nonthermal behavior observed at near-surface sites...
